Lesson 5: Module Case Study

Topic 3: Choosing the Message

Before creating a risk communication plan, you must first identify the purpose for your communication. A good risk communication plan then provides targeted information to address stakeholder concerns about the risks specific to them. Within the risk communication, you may also ask stakeholders, such as experts, for their professional assistance in addressing risks.

Consider the same three stakeholder groups we discussed previously. For each stakeholder, determine what the purpose of your communication should be. Then consider the list of information samples. Using what you know of the previous intuitive risk reactions of our three stakeholders, choose the piece of information you think will be the most important to communicate with that specific stakeholder.

Answer the following questions to help determine the piece of information you think will be the most important to communicate to the public.
